Woodbridge Man Charged with ID theft

A Woodbridge man was arrested last week and charged with Identity Theft, announced Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Between Feb. 1, 2009 and August 1, 2009 Jason Wood DOB: 8/29/1971 was pulled over by police officers for a variety of traffic infractions, including careless driving. At each stop in Union County he told officers that he did not have his driver’s license and instead gave the name of a construction worker who lives in Pennsylvania.

Wood was issued summons in the name of the Pennsylvania man, and promptly ignored the tickets. Warrants were issued in the name of the victim, who contacted the issuing law enforcement agencies saying he was unaware of the traffic violations.

An investigation was launched in August 2009 by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. Through diligent work by Det. Jamieson Antonio, investigators were able to identify Wood as the suspect and make the arrest.

Wood is charged with 3rd degree Criminal Impersonation and is currently being held at the Union County Jail on $15,000 bail.

The four stops where Wood used the victim’s name occurred in Elizabeth and Linden. The victim’s name has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

This remains an active investigation.

These criminal charges are mere accusations.
The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
