Dunellen Man Found Guilty of Eluding

A Dunellen man was found guilty yesterday afternoon in Union County Superior Court on a charge of 2nd Degree Eluding, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

According to Assistant Prosecutor Jessica Kahn, who prosecuted the case, on August 24, 2009 PAPD Brett Porigow observed Anthony Clay DOB: 5/19/1971 driving erratically on Routes 1&9 South. When the officer attempted to pull the man over, he gave chase, leading the officer onto the Turnpike and eventually into Elizabeth where he drove through many residential streets, said Kahn.

At one point, Clay pulled into a dead end street and then reversed his car and drove directly into Officer Porigow’s marked police vehicle. At that point Clay exited his car and gave a brief foot chase before he was arrested by Porigow, said Kahn.

A Union County Jury took less than 30 minutes to convict Clay following a two day trial before Superior Court Judge Scott J. Moynihan.

Clay faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on August 20.
