Man Sentenced to 8 years in Prison

A Plainfield man was sentenced to eight years in prison earlier today, after he was found guilty of 2nd Aggravated Assault and other charges back in April, announced Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

A jury found Luis Sarzosa-Guzman guilty of a Feb 15, 2009 assault that left one victim blind in one eye. According to the investigation, the victim discovered Sarzosa-Guzman standing inside the man’s house around dawn, said Assistant Prosecutor Jessica Kahn who prosecuted the case. When the victim confronted the intruder, Sarzosa-Guzman brandished a knife and stabbed the victim in the eye, leaving him partially blind. Sarzosa-Guzman fled the scene but was apprehended by Plainfield Police several minutes later, Kahn.

Union County Superior Court Judge Scott J. Moynihan sentenced Sarzosa-Guzman, who must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
