Arrest Made Following Investigation into Tobacco Smuggling at Union County Jail
Food service employee apprehended


Elizabeth, NJ – Union County police officers arrested one person yesterday afternoon, July 6, following an investigation into tobacco smuggling at the Union County Jail.  The investigation was a joint effort involving the Union County Police Department, Prosecutor’s Office, and Department of Corrections Special Investigations Unit.

The month-long investigation resulted in the apprehension and arrest of Shakiedah Payne of Elizabeth, age 30, who admitted to smuggling contraband in the form of tobacco products into the jail.  She was released pending a court appearance.  Ms. Payne is an employee of Aramark, the company that provides food service at the jail.
