C. Lattimore, a former Mayor, Freeholder and Superintendent of
Schools in Plainfield.Mr. Lattimore, who was elected mayor in 1981, was the first black to be elected to that post and the first Democratic mayor in 68 years. He resigned in 1983 to become the Superintendent of Schools. He was a member of the Plainfield City Council from 1961 to 1971. He served on the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 1971 to 1979. Mr. Lattimore was born in Winston Salem, N.C., and graduated from Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C., in 1949. |
