Fire
Protects against the impacts of natural and man-made emergencies and disasters
on the people, property, environment and economy of Union County
through mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery efforts.
When departments require outside assistance, the Fire Mutual Aid Headquarters, located in Elizabeth Fire Department, is contacted and a coordinated system is employed to dispatch the needed equipment and manpower. Fire Mutual Aid Headquarters serves as the fire sector-coordinating agency for emergency management during major emergencies and disasters.
The Fire Mutual Aid Staff consists of one Fire Coordinator and 10 Deputy Fire Coordinators. These professionals are Chiefs or Deputy Chiefs in various career and volunteer departments throughout Union County.
EMS
Assist with the review and update of municipal Emergency Operations Plan
EMS Annex.
Assist in the planning for any large public event to ensure that adequate EMS resources are committed to the event.
Conduct planning sessions for disaster drills:
•Assist in the developement of the senario
•Provide evaluators for the drill
•Schedule and participate in a critique of the drill
Conduct training for all Union County EMS personnel:
•Incident Command System
•Hazardous Materials Awareness
•Hazardous Materials Operations
Aquire resources during emergencies:
•Extra equipment for EMS responders
•Act as liaison between EMS Commmand and CenCom
Provide a Mobile Communications Unit
(through CenCom or Union County OEM) to support operations during an incident.
The role of the EMS Unit is to provide assistance when needed.
We will not respond to any emergency scene unless CenCom has received an official request. If we are requested, our role is to assist, assess, and advise. We will never assume command of the incident.
