Elizabeth man faces 10 years in prison on drug charges

An Elizabeth man was found guilty in Superior Court earlier today on three separate drug charges, said Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Dan McCallum DOB: 5/28/1966 was arrested in November 2008 after officers observed him driving on Catherine Street with a suspended license. When officers approached McCallum after he exited the car, they observed him toss a plastic bag – later found to contain heroin and cocaine -over a fence, said Assistant Prosecutor Rob Rosenthal, who prosecuted the case. McCallum was arrested and a subsequent search of the car revealed vials of cocaine.

Following a two day trial and several hours of deliberation, the jury found McCallum guilty of 3rd Degree possession, 3RD Degree possess with intent, and 3rd Degree possession with intent within 1,000 feet of a school, said Rosenthal.

He faces up to 10 years in prison when sentenced on January 21, 2011 before Judge Joseph P. Perfilio.
