Arrest Made in Elizabeth Homicide
Just before 11p.m. on Sunday members of the Union County Homicide Task Force arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with a shooting death that occurred in the city of Elizabeth roughly 17 hours earlier, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
According to the investigation, 34-year-old Yessenia Feliciano, a resident of 204 Erie St, Elizabeth was shot when she answered the door of her house just before 6 a.m. said Romankow. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Within a few hours of the shooting investigators had identified and had complaints signed against the 17-year-old suspect and were in the process of locating him,” said Romankow. “While that search was underway an anonymous caller phoned a tip into Union County Crimestoppers with the suspect’s location.”
With the assistance of the Newark Police Department, the Homicide Task Force located the suspect inside a NJ Railroad Avenue apartment in Newark. He was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with murder and weapon offenses.
The suspect is a juvenile and cannot be publically named but prosecutors said they will seek to try the suspect as an adult.
