Arrest made in Plainfield Homicide

The Union County Homicide Task Force has charged Shalik Coleman, 18, a confirmed bloods gang member of 432 East 6th St, Plainfield with the shooting death of Leaty grocery store owner Eduardo Leaty, said Prosecutor Theodore Romankow. The homicde occurred last Saturday at 801 East 6th St, Plainfield at approx 4:10 pm.

Coleman has been charged with Felony murder, murder, armed robbery and weapons offenses, said Romankow.

He was also charged with the attempted murder of an employee, who was with Leaty inside the store when the robbery took place, said the prosecutor. That employee is recovering from his injuries.

Coleman’s bail has been set at $1 million by Union County Superior Court Judge Stuart Peim. Coleman is being held at the Union County Jail. This remains an active investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
