The Union County Homicide Task Force arrested a 30-year-old man late Monday evening, and charged him with the stabbing death of his live-in girlfriend in Elizabeth, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Bertin Rodriguez-Reyes AKA Bryan Rodriguez was arrested around 5a.m. Tuesday after investigators tracked him to Lakewood, N.J. said Romankow. He was taken into custody without incident a day after his girlfriend was discovered slain inside the couple’s Stiles Street apartment.

The victim, Jackeline Guillen, 21, was discovered around 4:45p.m. on Oct. 24, by a relative said Romankow. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:04 p.m. An autopsy was performed on Monday and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

“This is a crime that should not have happened,” said Romankow, “but the task force acted quickly and accurately to ensure that Rodriguez-Reyes was captured and charged.”

Rodriguez-Reyes is being held at the Union County Jail on $1.5 million bail and will make his first court appearance in the coming days.

These criminal charges are mere accusations. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
