Linden Man Arrested in Connection with Concert Scam
A Union County man who pretended to be a high-profile promoter for well known musicians, was arrested this morning after an investigation revealed that he routinely solicited concert venues throughout the country with offer to book the artists, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Yusuf Nadir D.O.B. 3/9/1973 was arrested without incident this morning at his home on the 1200 Block of E. St. Georges Avenue in Linden. He will be held at the Union County Jail $75,000 bail. The arrest was made by the Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit, said Romankow.
He is charged with counts of 2nd and 3rd Degree Theft by Deception, counts of 2nd and 3rd Degree Criminal impersonation and three counts of 3rd Degree writing bad checks.
According to investigators, since late 2010 Nadir would call concert venues around the country identifying himself using the names of actual talent representatives from artists like Lil Wayne, said Romankow.
During these conversations Nadir would ask venues to deposit a “down payment” for future concert dates into accounts he controlled. As of his arrest, authorities are aware of at least $100,000 in payments received by Nadir from concert venues in Ohio and North Carolina. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of law enforcement around the country as well as promotional companies like Live Nation.
This is an active investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Anyone with information regarding the investigation into Nadir is urged to contact Det. Jamieson Antonio at (908) 527-4558.
These criminal charges are mere accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
