Man Pleads Guilty to Identity Theft
A Bayonne native pled guilty earlier this week to 2nd Degree identity theft in a case that involved victims from several different states and targeted members of law enforcement, announced Union County First Assistant Prosecutor Albert Cernadas, Jr.
Joseph Capo DOB: 3/23/1975 will receive seven years in prison when he is sentenced in March 2012 in Union County. He was arrested in January 2009 as part of a multi-agency investigation spanning several states and the U.S. Virgin Islands, said Assistant Prosecutor Bart East, who prosecuted the case.
In several instances Capo, using fake military ID cards under the name Sean Fote, among others, fraudulently obtained goods and services from victims, this included ATVs, motorcycles and rental cars.
An investigation by Union County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Jamieson Antonio led to the execution of search warrants at Capo’s residence in South Bound Brook and the recovery of proceeds from his crimes and the fraudulent documents he used to obtain them.
The arrest was the result of a cooperative effort between the Prosecutor’s Office, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, the F.B.I., The New York City Police Department, the Union County Police Department, Garwood Police Department, and South Bound Brook Police Department.
