Plainfield Man Convicted on Robbery Charge
A Plainfield resident was convicted on Friday of 1st Degree Robbery and weapon possession stemming from a 2008 robbery by knifepoint on Clinton Avenue, announced Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Gregory Williams DOB: 4/5/1966 faces 20-years to life in prison when he is sentenced in February 2012, said Assistant Prosecutor Peter L. Benza, who prosecuted the case for the duration of the three-week trial.
According to the investigation, Williams approached the victim from behind, struck him and then placed a knife against the victim’s body and demanded money, said Benza. The victim was not carrying cash at the time of the robbery so Williams attempted to take jewelry that the victim was wearing. The victim struggled, was able to break free and fled the scene. The defendant also fled, but was observed by an eyewitness who notified police. Williams was arrested a short time later, in a parking lot adjacent to where there robbery had occurred.
