PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE HOSTS INTERNET SAFETY PRESENTATION
On December 15, 2011 the Union County Prosecutor’s Office will host an event aimed at educating parents and guardians of the potential dangers their children face online.
The 90-minute program will feature presentations by Sgt. Michael Hoose, a social media and Internet specialist from the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and Ashley Craig, the founder of Students Against Being Bullied, an advocacy group. The presentation begins at 7 p.m. at the Union County Performing arts Center in Rahway and will provide parents and children important tips and information for responsible Internet usage along with the very real dangers of cyber bullying.
This informative event will discuss ways parents can monitor and promote safe browsing and ways to ensure predators do not have access to their children. It will also discuss ways students can protect each other from bullying and showing there is hope for those being bullied who might seek to harm themselves.
Organizers will also announce the six winners of the “Say No To Cyber Bullying” contest. Earlier this month entry cards were went home to more than 18,000 middle school students in Union County, urging them to come up with a slogan to stop bullying. The winners will receive a lunch date with Zach Parise of the New Jersey Devils along with an autographed hockey stick and one for the winner’s school.
The event is sponsored by the Bleiwise Family Foundation, The Wilshire Grand Hotel, Rider Insurance and the Union County Crime Stoppers and will feature musical performances by Jill Criscuolo and Missbehaved. During the event gift cards to Target will be handed out in a raffle. Copies of a Union County produced video on stemming cyber bullying will also be available.
