A Summit man arrested in January and charged with attempting to lure a Berkeley Heights girl and who is also charged in a New York state case relating to the sexual assault of a minor, pled guilty to the New Jersey charges on Monday, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

Elio Pintado DOB: 9/15/1973 was arrested on Jan. 7 near a Berkeley Heights elementary school, one day after he tried to lure a 9-year-old girl into his car, according to the investigation. He was later charged with the sexual assault of a 7-year-old in a bathroom stall at a movie theater in West Nyack, N.Y. mall.

On Monday, Pintado pled guilty to 2nd degree luring and 3rd Degree theft by deception, said Assistant Prosecutor Scott Peterson who prosecuted the case. The theft charge comes from a stolen checkbook that Pintado had taken from a family friend and used to cash several checks.

He will be sentenced to three years in prison on January 25, 2011 before Union County Superior Court Judge Joseph P. Perfilio. Under the terms of the plea Pintado will be required to register under Megan’s Law and will be placed on parole supervision for life, said Peterson.

Pintado will be extradited to New York state following his sentencing in January.
