Three Arrests Made in Roselle Homicide

Three teenagers were arrested and charged late yesterday for their role in the homicide of a Roselle teenager that occurred earlier this week, announced Union County First Assistant Prosecutor Albert Cernadas, Jr.

An investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force and Roselle Police department led to the arrest of 18-year-old Nyfee Mallory of Roselle and two 17-year-old suspects, also from Roselle, said Cernadas. The names of the 17-year-olds are not available for release due to their age.

The three are charged with the shooting death of 17-year-old Damel Mitchell, which occurred on February 20, 2012 at approximately 10:50 am, at the Sylvester Land field off Columbus Avenue in Roselle.

Mallory’s bail was set at $1,000,000 by the Union County Superior Court Judge Robert J. Mega, said Cernadas. Task Force Detective Jose Vendas served as case investigator and the case will be handled by Assistant Prosecutor Caroline Lawlor.  Mallory was arrested without incident at the Roselle Police Department Headquarters yesterday afternoon. He is being lodged in the Union County Jail. The two juveniles are being held at the county juvenile detention center.

These criminal charges are mere accusations.
The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
