Prosecutor’s Office Investigating Police Involved Shooting

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office is continuing to investigate a police involved shooting that occurred in Elizabeth on Friday night, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

According to the preliminary investigation, officers from the Elizabeth Police Department responded to a report of a robbery in progress on the 500 Block Of Vine Street around 9 p.m, said Romankow.

The responding officers encountered two suspects – one at the front of the building, one at the rear – who allegedly brandished weapons at the officers. At that point, the officers discharged their service weapons, striking each suspect.

Greed Long, DOB: 3/25/1989 of Paine Avenue, Irvington and Karim Ali, DOB: 7/19/1981 of Clinton Place, Elizabeth were taken to University Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Each are currently being held on $400,000 bail. Their conditions were not immediately available.

Two other men were arrested at the scene: Naim Paige DOB 12/23/1991 of 18TH Avenue, Newark and Antonio Clark DOB: 12/11/1985 of Stuyvesant Ave, Irvington.

All four suspects are charged with Robbery, Weapon Possession, Kidnapping and Aggravated assault. Paige is being held on $400,000 bail and Clark on $250,000.

This remains an active investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office Shooting Response Team and will be turned over to a Grand Jury in the near future, said Romankow.

These criminal charges are mere accusations.  The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
