Increasing Vaccination in Adolescents through Education

Union County’s school and health department nurses are invited to attend a symposium entitled “Options to Increase Vaccination in Adolescents Through Education Promotional Programs” which will be held at The Westwood, 438 North Avenue in Garwood on Thursday, March 22nd. The program is made possible by Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, Inc. in partnership with Union County’s Immunization Center.

“Union County’s Immunization Center, located at 342 Westminster Ave. in Elizabeth, is a joint service of Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County and the county’s Department of Human Services,” noted Union County Freeholder Vernell Wright, liaison to RUNNELLS. “This vital program enables Union County to reach out and protect the health of families throughout our county.”

The lecture will be presented by Robert Tolan, Jr. MD, Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, Drexel University College of Medicine; Chief, Division of Allergy, Immunology and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Tolan will discuss epidemiology and the burden of meningococcal disease; trends in pediatric and adolescents immunization, as well as quadrivalent meningococcal vaccines.

Two professional development hours have been granted for RN’s by the New Jersey Department of Education/Office of Program Support.

Dinner will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lecture. Union County school and health department nurses who are interested in attending MUST register for the limited spaces by March 16th by emailing mrodriguez@ucnj.org. Only email reservations will be accepted.
