Spirit Of The Holidays Celebrated At Runnells Specialized Hospital

Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa were just around the corner, and to the residents and patients of RUNNELLS Specialized Hospital of Union County in Berkeley Heights, the excitement was infectious.

RUNNELLS Hospital sponsored a holiday lunch for members of the Volunteers Guild, the Berkeley Heights Lions and the Union High School Key Club. It was a way to say thanks for their money, time and effort during the year. After lunch, “Santa” handed out gifts to residents and patients, with the help of these three groups.

“The dedicated members of these organizations made the gift distribution possible again,” said Union County Freeholder Vernell Wright of the Township of Union, RUNNELLS liaison. “It’s difficult to express appreciation for such generosity of money and time. Thank you sounds like so little, but it means so much.”

The Volunteers Guild uses the profits from the coffee shop combined with the profits from the gift shop for the benefit of the hospital’s residents and patients. The Guild purchases holiday and birthday gifts, as well as DVDs, CD players and TVs; sponsors entertainment throughout the year, in addition to supports tickets to the theater and too many others to mention.
