The Art of Minnie Wilkins Honored
Minnie Wilkins, a resident of RUNNELLS Specialized Hospital of Union County in Berkeley Heights is an exceptional individual with artistic skills. Wilkins successfully entered a colorful geometric design done in markers entitled “Colours of Motion” in a recent art competition.
Mrs. Wilkins geometric piece became a winner in the Health Care Association of New Jersey’s (HCANJ) “Works of Heart” artwork competition. Her art will be part of the annual HCANJ 2012 calendar which will be distributed at the organization’s annual convention and exposition in October. The original artwork will also be on display there.
In her childhood, Mrs. Wilkins said that her artistic talents and interests were encouraged and influenced by her father. Minnie found time for drawing and painting when her chores were done, working in whatever medium she had supplies for be it paint, markers or pencil.
The success of Minnie Wilkins was celebrated at a party in her honor at RUNNELLS, which was attended by family, residents, staff and Union County Freeholder Mohamed S. Jalloh, RUNNELLS Freeholder liaison.
“Great accolades to Minnie for winning, especially from myself and the Union County Freeholder Board,” declared Freeholder Jalloh. “Her family said she’s always been artistic.”
The activities at RUNNELLS are designed to reach many goals creatively. These enjoyable efforts improve areas including socialization, physical activity, self-esteem, independence and intellectual functioning.
