Mountainside, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to offer an instructional program on beginning bird watching for adults, ages 18 and older, on Tuesday, March 13, from 7:00 - 8:15 p.m. at the Trailside Nature and Science Center in Mountainside. “Get ready for spring and the joys of bird watching,” said Freeholder Chairwoman Bette Jane Kowalski, liaison to the Union County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. “This program is an ideal way for adults who love nature to get some tips on how to identify birds.” Trailside Park Naturalist Joe Filo will offer strategies for identifying these lively avian neighbors as well as suggestions on how to choose the right binoculars for you. Learn the songs and calls of common birds of the Watchung Reservation, including goldfinches, cardinals, robins, tufted titmice and mourning doves. Participants will learn from Trailside’s new state-of-the-art bird exhibits to identify color patterns, behaviors and habitats of local birds. Pre-registration is required. The fee for this program is $10 per person for Union County residents and $15 for out-of-county participants. Doors will open 15 minutes before the program.
