Gisela Groiss (left) and Gerry Christensen (right), of the Community Presbyterian Church of Mountainside presented handmade fleece blankets to Patricia Scott of Union (center), Director of Volunteer Services and Activities Therapy for RUNNELLS Specialized Hospital of Union County. The blankets were given to the patients of the facility’s Sub-Acute unit. These patients, categorized as sub-acute or post-acute are individuals who have recovered to a point where they no longer require the level of care offered in an acute care hospital, but are not well enough to endure the rigors of the Rehabilitation program, nor well enough to return home.

“I would like to thank the members of the Community Presbyterian Church of Mountainside for their kindnesses to RUNNELLS patients and residents,” said Union County Freeholder Chester Holmes, RUNNELLS liaison. “They began coming to our facility about 3 years ago to sing Christmas Carols. After learning about some of RUNNELLS’ needs, they donated blankets that were given to welcome residents and patients in 2005. In 2006 they gave 15 fleece blankets for those on the sub-acute wing.”

The Volunteer Guild and the Office of Volunteer Services of RUNNELLS Hospital are always interested in recruiting volunteers, both individuals and groups. Anyone who would like further information should call the Office of Volunteer Services at 908-771-5847.
