Care Package Items Needed for Troops

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is seeking donations for the “We Care Packages” project. The Union County Office of Veterans Affairs is working on this project in conjunction with the American Legion, Martin Wallberg Post #3, in Westfield. These items will be used to prepare care packages for U.S. service men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“The Board of Chosen Freeholders is proud to support the ‘We Care Packages’ project for the benefit of our brave men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan,” stated Freeholder Chairwoman Bette Jane Kowalski. “Writing paper, pens and pencils are good items to donate. Additionally, a note of appreciation to be enclosed in a care package would be a great way to boost our troops’ morale.”

Products needed include personal hygiene items for men and women; baby wipes; sun screen; toilet paper; tissues; nasal spray; eye drops; foot powder;; and dental hygiene items; and toothbrushes. Food items requested include granola bars; powdered drink mix such as iced tea and Gatorade; instant coffee and tea bags; and sugar and creamer packets. Other donations requested are sun glasses; fly swatters; playing cards; board games (travel size); books (novels or short stories); music CDs and video DVDs; disposable cameras; batteries (AA, D, and other); duct tape; small flashlights; bug spray (in zip lock baggies); socks; sweat bands; and pre-paid phone cards.
