Applications Available for Union County Senior Art Show

Applications are available for the annual Union County Senior Art Show. The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders invites artists who are 60 years of age and older, currently residing within Union County, to exhibit an original work that was created within the last three years. Entrants may either be amateurs or professionals in status and must be pre-registered.

The exhibit will be on display from June 21 through July 20 in the atrium of the Elizabethtown Gas Co., 1085 Morris Avenue in the Township of Union, across from Kean University.

Professionals are those who have sold the type of art entered in the exhibition through commercial channels, exhibited in a professional gallery, and held a professional membership in a guild or association.

The following are categories of eligible work: acrylic; craft (one-of-a-kind original creations only, no craft kits, molds or wearable fiber art); digital imagery (artwork generated or altered using computer graphics software, including digitally-altered original photographs with outcome not obtainable in a traditional darkroom setting); drawing (including pencil, pen, and ink); mixed media (combines two or more media, no one of which clearly predominates; includes collage and assemblage); oil; pastel; photography (includes color, black and white, or tinted photographs taken with a film-based or digital camera); print (includes etching, dry point and intaglio); sculpture (designed in 3-dimensions, carved or constructed in any medium, abstract or figurative, painted or unpainted); and watercolor.

Hanging artwork, craft and photos must be no more than 38” and no less than 11” in height and width, including matting and framing. Sculptures or 3-D crafts may not exceed 18” in height, width or depth, including its base.

Where necessary, pictures must be protected with glass, Plexiglas, Mylar or other clear material, and with screws in the back ready for hanging. However, on pieces over 24”, Plexiglas is strongly recommended.

The Union County Senior Art Show is a joint program of the Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs and the Division on Aging. It is funded in part by a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
