Submit Artwork for
Merck 2007 Union County Juried Art Show

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to announce that art work is now being sought for “The Merck 2007 Union County Juried Art Show.” All artists living or working in Union County are eligible to submit slides of art work to be considered for this exhibit taking place at the Arts Guild of Rahway from October 19 to November 4.

Each artist may submit up to three slides. Maximum size of artwork is 36 x 36 inches framed. All media will be considered, including photography; however, sculpture and craft cannot be accepted this year. The deadline for submission of slides is Friday, July 27th. There is an entry fee of $10.00.

The Arts Guild of Rahway carries on the tradition of the Juried Art Show, begun by Merck & Co., Inc. and the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs in 1992, to provide opportunities for serious artists to exhibit their work in Union County.

Three noteworthy art professionals will serve as jurors for this year’s exhibit. Printmaker and arts illustrator Stephen McKenzie is Director of Art Education at The Newark Museum. He completed his MFA at Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts in New Brunswick. McKenzie has been an adjunct instructor at four schools and was an assistant master printer at the Center for Innovative Printmaking at Rutgers University. Rachael Faillace is an artist and educator. She received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2001, and is a graduate of the Masters program in Visual Arts at Mason Gross School of the Arts. Faillace is an adjunct faculty member at Middlesex County College in Edison. Owen Kanzler, aerial photographer, takes pictures of New Jersey landscapes from a small plane which he pilots. Primarily self-taught in photography, he studied sociology, anthropology, and art in college and has followed a career in photography ever since.

Three cash awards will be presented: First place: $300; Second place: $200; Third place: $100. There will be three honorable mention awards, and a Special Award will be presented to one participating artist. The Crimson Atelier, Inc., a fine arts Giclee printing house, will provide a printmaking package that includes scanning of an original work chosen by the winner, all proofing and the production of a suite of 15 final Giclee prints on Arches 100 percent rag paper or canvas in final size up to 22 x 30 inches. This award is valued at more than $600. All artists chosen for this year’s exhibit will be eligible for a ten-percent discount on all printing services offered by the Crimson Atelier.
