Mountainside, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to offer a guided butterfly hike and lecture for adults, ages 18 and older, in the scenic 2,060-acre Watchung Reservation on Thursday, September 6, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

“If you love butterflies, this is the program for you. You will have the chance to learn about one of nature’s most beautiful creatures in its perfect setting: Trailside’s butterfly garden,” said Freeholder Chairwoman Bette Jane Kowalski, liaison to the Union County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

Butterflies are fragile and beautiful – and their lifestyles are amazing. Join a Trailside park naturalist on a brief tour of the Trailside butterfly garden and local meadow habitats. Participants will learn which plants and shrubs attract butterflies, the best time for planting, and which butterflies may still be seen in September. Following the walk, participants will return to the Visitor Center to learn more about these incredible lepidopterans.

Pre-registration is required for this program. The fee is $5 per person for residents of Union County and $10 for out-of-county participants. This walk will depart from the Visitor Center front entrance. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
