Next Mobile Paper Shredder Event to take Place in Cranford

Cranford-Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is proud to announce additional dates for the mobile paper shredding unit. All events run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.

“This service is a cost effective way to assist the county’s recycling efforts and help combat identity theft,” said Union County Freeholder Chairwoman Bette Jane Kowalski. “This is a great opportunity for residents to securely eliminate clutter, while helping the environment.”

The last three events will be held:

  • September 20, Cranford Conservation Center,
    210 Birchwood Ave., Cranford.
  • October 6, Lucent Technologies,
    600 Mountain Ave., New Providence.
  • November 3, Schering Plough Corporation,
    Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth.

Residents who plan to attend the next event are asked to properly prepare their documents for shredding. All papers should be removed from envelopes and loose. Documents should not be bound. Residents are asked to limit the amount of shred materials to 3 bags/boxes of important documents. Please do not bring all recyclable paper items – only those that contain personal information.

Accurate Document Destruction Inc. will bring the mobile shredder to the designated sites. The self contained machine generates its own electricity and weighing in at 12.5 tons, is the largest shredder-bailer mobile unit manufactured today. For more information, please go to

Documents are put into 96-gallon containers provided by the company. The items are then dumped onto a conveyor belt and put through the shredder. The event will end prior to 2 p.m. if the shredding truck reaches capacity.

Participants are welcome to view the shredding process via a closed-circuit television. The shredded documents are then recycled, shipped to paper mills and used as pulp.

The Mobile Shredding program has been paid for through funds from the Department of Environmental Protection Solid Waste Services Tax Grant. County residents are encouraged to participate. For more information, call the Recycling Hotline at
