Union County’s school and health department nurses are invited to attend a free seminar entitled “Beyond Childhood Immunizations” which will be held at the Westwood, 438 North Avenue in Garwood on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. The dinner and lecture are made possible by sanofi pasteur in partnership with Union County’s Immunization Program.
“The Board of Chosen Freeholders takes great pride in the Union County Immunization Program sponsoring events such as this. The Immunization Program is a joint venture of Union County’s RUNNELLS Specialized Hospital located in Berkeley Heights and the Department of Human Services,” stated Union County Freeholder Chester Holmes, liaison to the Runnells Board of Managers.
The objectives of the symposium are to provide an overview and review of:
- Vaccines needed for school age children.
- New scheduling and administration of vaccines for adolescents
ages 11-12 years
- Scheduling for teens and early adulthood.
- Update on Pertussis and Meningococal diseases.
- Importance of educating parents on flu outbreaks & its effect on the school age population.
There will be time for a question and answer period during the seminar.
The guest speaker for the evening’s program will be Mary Beth Koslap-Petraco, MS, APRN, BC, CPNP. Ms Koslap-Petraco is an Education Immunization Specialist for sanofi pasteur as well as Coordinator of Child Health, Suffolk County Department of Health Services located in Hauppauge, New York.
Two professional development hours from the New Jersey Department of Education/Office of Program Support Services will be given.
The dinner will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by the lecture.
