Mountainside, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to offer a workshop for adults, ages 18 and older, on the art of making swags using wild, dried plants and flowers. The workshop will take place at the Trailside Nature & Science Center in Mountainside on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. “We invite you to spend an engaging evening learning how to identify, prepare and use nature’s bounty of dried autumn plants to make a one-of-a kind ornamental swag for your home,” said Freeholder Chairwoman Bette Jane Kowalski, liaison to the Union County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. “Ruth Yablonsky knows her wild plants, and she’ll show you some great ways to use them for decorating.” Participants will join Trailside park naturalist Ruth Yablonsky as she demonstrates how to weave grasses, stems, flowers and seeds into a decorative piece that will surely brighten your home. Use plants such as dock, wild grasses, sedum and hydrangea to create a colorful masterpiece of your own. You are encouraged to bring a hot glue gun if you have one. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. The fee is $20 per person for residents of Union County and $25 per person for out-of-county participants and includes all materials. For additional information on this workshop or for a complete brochure of Trailside’s adult workshops and other special events please call 908-789-3670 or visit us on our website at www.ucnj.org/trailside. Trailside Nature and Science Center is located at 452 New Providence Road in Mountainside and is a service of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. |
