family-like holiday season
Mary White, formerly of Rahway and Helen Paul, formerly of Roselle took their turn at placing the handcrafted decorations on the RUNNELLS’ Christmas tree.

The residents at RUNNELLS Specialized Hospital of Union County, just like most families followed traditions and had fun as they got ready for the recent holidays.

Residents, patients and staff decorated the Christmas tree with handcrafted ornaments. Many were made by the residents themselves; others were made and donated by The Runnells Volunteers of Westfield and by the Boy and Girl Scouts from throughout Union County. A Hanukkah menorah was lit and the seven principles of the coming Kwanzaa festival were explained as part of the celebration.

The RUNNELLS Choir led residents, patients, staff, volunteers and family members in singing songs that included Joy to the World and Kum By Ya. The program included solo performances of Hanukkah O Hanukkah, performed by choir member Eddie Gordon, formerly of Brick, followed by O Holy Night, by choir member Jewelle Mielnik, formerly of Union.

"May the spirit of the holiday season be with RUNNELLS’ staff, residents and patients throughout the new year," said Union County Freeholder Chester Holmes.

RUNNELLS is located at 40 Watchung Way, Berkeley Heights.
