Grab your camera and head outside! The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Trailside Nature & Science Center are pleased to announce the 2008 Wildlife Photography Contest. Amateur photographers, ages six through adult, are invited to enter their original photographs of wild animals in their natural habitat. The deadline for entries has been extended to 5:00 p.m. Friday, April 11th. “Animals are challenging photographic subjects, and capturing them successfully in natural settings on film requires knowledge of the animal and its habitat,” said Freeholder Chairman Angel G. Estrada. “We hope that this contest will encourage the hobby of wildlife photography and a better understanding of the natural world.” Contest entries should be unmated, unframed 5” x 7” black and white or color prints. Participants may enter a maximum of two photographs. Prizes will be given in each of three age groups: 6-11 years, 12-17, and 18 and older. All photographs will be displayed at the Trailside Visitor Center through May 11. Photographs will be judged by local professional photographers. The judging will be based on originality, composition, technical excellence and artistic merit. An awards ceremony will be held at Trailside’s 18th annual Wildlife Sunday on April 20, at 4:30 p.m. A prize will be awarded to the best photograph in each age group.
