Union County’s Division on Aging Announces Outreach Dates and Locations in May to Help Senior Citizens Apply for Government Programs

The Union County Department of Human Services, Division on Aging, will bring its Outreach Services Program for senior adults to Garwood, Elizabeth, Clark and Rahway during the month
of May.

Division on Aging staff will assist seniors with information and help in applying for a variety of government assistance programs, including gas and electric support (LIFE LINE), pharmaceutical assistance (PAAD), and home energy assistance (HEAP). There will also be screening for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) eligibility, and information about the Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP).

“The Freeholders of Union County encourage elderly, isolated individuals from throughout the county who meet eligibility requirements to apply for vital services through our outreach program,” said Freeholder Chester Holmes, liaison to the Union County Advisory Council on Aging. “These services can supplement the basic needs of the isolated elderly and sustain or improve their lives.”

“Our staff will conduct private interviews on request,” Freeholder Holmes added.
