UNION COUNTY EMPLOYEE NAMED CIVIL ENGINEER OF THE YEAR
Tom Mineo recognized for service to civil engineering profession

Elizabeth – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to announce that County Engineer Tom Mineo has been named 2008 Central Jersey Branch Civil Engineer of the Year for his role in advancing the field of civil engineering. The honor was granted by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

“On behalf of the Board of Chosen Freeholders, I would like to congratulate Mr. Mineo on this important recognition of his many contributions over his long career,” said Freeholder Chairman Angel G. Estrada. “Union County is fortunate to benefit from the wealth of experience and knowledge that he brings to our public projects.”

Civil engineering is a lifelong career for Mr. Mineo, beginning in college with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Princeton. Working in the private sector for thirty-five years, Mr. Mineo focused on structural and environmental engineering. He was instrumental in improving standards for concrete strength and testing requirements for the construction of cooling towers.

Mr. Mineo has served as President of the New Jersey Section and the Central Jersey Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In this capacity, he combined society meetings with mandatory professional development opportunities, an innovation that dramatically increased engagement in the organization by its members. He is currently serving as Treasurer of the New Jersey State Association of County Engineers.
