Watchung Stable Presents 75th Annual Spring Troop Show, May 23-25

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Department of Parks and Community Renewal are pleased to announce that Watchung Stable in Mountainside will celebrate its 75th Anniversary Spring Troop Show over the Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25. The public is invited to witness this annual equestrian competition featuring nearly 300 student riders in the Watchung Mounted Troop. Spectators are welcome and admission is free to the three-day show. Events begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 23, and at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“The annual Spring Troop Show is always a wonderful display of riding skills,” said Freeholder Rick Proctor, liaison to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. “This year’s 75th Anniversary Show will be particularly interesting for horse lovers of all ages.”

The 75th Anniversary Show will include a Parade of Horses and Troopers and a special gymkhana event by the instructors of Watchung Stable on Saturday, May 24, at noon. School horses Wilma and Polo will be honored for 20 years of service to the student riders at Watchung Stable.

Located at 1160 Summit Lane in Mountainside, in the Watchung Reservation, the Watchung Stable has a long and rich heritage in Central New Jersey. Owned and operated by the County of Union since 1933, its goal is to provide the opportunity to learn how to ride, enhance equestrian skills or just enjoy the natural beauty of the 26 miles of bridle trails that weave through the Reservation, a 2,000-acre forest preserve.

Watchung Stable, a facility of the Union County Department of Parks and Community Renewal, is administered by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. For more information about the 75th Anniversary Spring Troop Show and other programs offered, please call 908-789-3665, or email questions to
