Senior Farmer’s Market Vouchers Still Available in July
Program provides free produce to income-eligible seniors

Elizabeth, NJ – Jersey Fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs are available to income-eligible seniors throughout July, thanks to the state Farmer’s Market Program in cooperation with the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The program provides $20 in free vouchers redeemable at designated farmer’s markets.

“This is a wonderful way to support local New Jersey farmers while providing eligible seniors with fresh, healthy produce,” said Freeholder Chairman Angel G. Estrada. “I am very happy that the Freeholder Board has the opportunity to participate in this worthwhile program.”

Any Union County resident age 60 or older, whose annual income does not exceed $19,240 if single or $25,900 if married, is eligible to receive the vouchers. They are available in denominations of $5. Each senior may obtain up to four vouchers annually, for a total of $20.

The vouchers can be redeemed at any farmer’s market displaying the “WIC” sign. They are not accepted at grocery stores or other markets.

A pre-registration form is needed to obtain the vouchers. The forms are available at senior centers, and at other locations where meals for seniors are served. They are also available by mail, by calling the Union County Division on Aging at 1-888-280-8226, 908-527-4870, or 908-527-4872.

Once the form is filled out, seniors can pick up their vouchers from Union County Division on Aging staff at any of the locations listed below, during the designated hours. A list of participating farmer’s markets will also be available. Seniors should bring proof of income, such as a Medicaid card, SSI card, or annual pension or Social Security statement.
