ELIZABETH, NJ – Jersey Gardens, New Jersey’s largest outlet mall, will host “Art in the Gardens” on Columbus Day Weekend as part of the celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month in October. This annual event is coordinated by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs in the Department of Parks and Community Renewal. A multi-cultural showcase of music and dance, all performances will take place on Friday, Oct. 10; Saturday, Oct. 11; Sunday, Oct. 12; and Monday, Columbus Day, Oct. 13, in the Mall’s Center Court.

“Art in the Gardens is an excellent opportunity for a Union County venue to host local talent and present it to a wide and diverse audience,” said Freeholder Chairman Angel G. Estrada. “The Board of Chosen Freeholders is proud to have this annual event right in our own County.”

The Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs invites musical and dance groups in Union County to participate. Large groups and culturally diverse groups are encouraged to apply as the Mall venue is especially appropriate for such performances. For an application form, please call the Office at (908) 558-2550, or e-mail the Office at culturalinfo@ucnj.org. All applications are due by Monday, September 8.

“Since opening its doors in October of 1999, Jersey Gardens has become the center of the community; therefore it was a natural fit for us to host the celebration of arts in Union County,” said Crystal Stell, Marketing Director for Jersey Gardens. “We have been overwhelmed by the local talent right here in our own backyard.”

“Our goal is to raise awareness of the arts in Union County and the many artists who deserve recognition for their achievements,” Stell continued. “Our shoppers come from all over the tri-state area and beyond – this is an opportunity to showcase our local talent.”

Jersey Gardens, New Jersey’s largest outlet mall, is located on Kapkowski Road at Exit 13A of the New Jersey Turnpike and features over 200 stores all under one roof.
