L-R (rear) Representing the Berkeley Heights Lions Club Donald C. Miller of Berkeley Heights, Adrian Basili of Gillette, Peter M. Cino of Berkeley Heights, club treasurer and Vito Fragati of Berkeley Heights kick off the tasty annual event by serving the first ice cream sundae to Ernest Salvati, (front, center) formerly of Roselle Park, chairperson of RUNNELLS Specialized Hospital’s Resident Council.

Ice cream, the cold, delicious treat was served with all the fixings on a recent hot day at Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County. The popular, annual, hospital-wide event was made possible with the financial assistance of the members of the Berkeley Heights Lions Club.
“I’d like to thank the Berkeley Heights Lions for all that they did to make this event possible again this year, both their generous donation and working hard at the ice cream social,” said Union County Freeholder Chester Holmes, liaison to Runnells. “I’d also like to thank the members of the Volunteer Guild of Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County for all of their hard work. Both groups can always be counted on to better the lives of those receiving care at this remarkable facility.”
Runnells has care that meets a variety of needs:  Sub-acute rehabilitation for those who no longer require the care offered in an acute care facility; Nursing Care which provides long term as well as respite care and “Comfort Care”/Palliative Care for those in the final stages of an illness.
Runnells SpecializedHospital, 40 Watchung Way in Berkeley Heights is easily accessible from Routes 22, 24, and 78. Individuals or groups who would like to become a part of RUNNELLS’ volunteer family should contact RUNNELLS Office of Volunteer Services at 908-771-5847. Flexible hours and a variety of opportunities exist.
