Popular Farmersí Market Vouchers Extended
Free, fresh produce for income-eligible seniors

Elizabeth, NJ – With harvest season kicking into high gear, eligible seniors can still obtain vouchers totaling up to $30 for free produce from local farmers’ markets in Union County. The program has been extended through September.

“I am delighted that additional funding has enabled us to help more seniors afford healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables,” said Union County Freeholder Chairman Angel G. Estrada. “I encourage all who meet the eligibility requirements to take advantage of this wonderful program.”

To be eligible, an individual must be a resident of Union County age 60 years or older, with an annual income not to exceed $19,240. For a married couple, the income ceiling is $25,900.

A pre-registration form is needed to obtain the vouchers. The forms are available at senior centers, and at other locations where meals for seniors are served. They are also available
by mail, by calling the Union County Division on Aging at 1-888-280-8226, 908-527-4870,
or 908-527-4872.

Once the form is filled out, seniors can pick up their vouchers from Union County Division on Aging staff at any of the locations listed below, during the designated hours. A list of participating farmer’s markets will also be available. Seniors must bring proof of income, such as a Medicaid card, SSI card, or annual pension or Social Security statement.

Seniors who pre-registered earlier this summer and have already received vouchers totaling $20 can receive an additional $10. They need only bring proof of residency to pick up their additional vouchers. They do not need to register again or provide proof of income.
