UNION COUNTY IMPROVEMENT AUTHORITY OPENS FIRE HOUSE #2 IN LINDEN

uc improvement authority opens fire house #2 in linden

LINDEN—The Union County Improvement Authority celebrated the opening of the state-of-the art Linden Firehouse #2 on W. St. Georges Avenue, which it financed. The firehouse is the first of four new or renovated firehouses scheduled to come online within the next year or two in Linden that are being financed through the Improvement Authority.

“With this opening today, we continue to make progress in assisting our emergency responders
with the facilities they need to address emergency conditions in an urban environment
such as Linden,” said Charlotte DeFilippo, Executive Director of the Union County Improvement Authority.

The firehouses represent the ongoing commitment the Union County Freeholder Board has toward Homeland Security, DeFilippo added. The facilities supplement Linden’s response to any emergencies in its vast transportation and industrial base that includes the New Jersey Turnpike, Routes 1&9, oil and energy facilities, and rail lines.

“The firehouses are a tremendous asset for Linden, and will serve in the mission to protect our residents,” said Anthony Scutari, the Chairman of the Union County Improvement Authority Board of Commissioners. Scutari is also a resident of Linden.

The Firehouse on W. St Georges Street is the first to come online. The brick, 10,2000 square foot two-story building holds and sleeps up to ten firemen. There are three bays, a locker room for men and women,  washer and drier, gym, conference room,  bathroom,  dayroom, and a room for firemen’s gear. The Fire Department’s Credit Union is also housed in the facility.

The building employs red brick, metal panels, broad glass windows, has a sleek look, and a distinctive modern tower. The building’s design received a merit award from the Fire Industry Equipment Research Organization (FIERO) for efficient use of available space and a façade that reads as a fire station.
