Union County Freeholder Board sponsors event to support caregivers

Elizabeth, NJ – Union County residents who care for family members or other persons with Alzheimer’s/Dementia are invited to attend a free workshop offering health, legal and financial information.

“Caregivers can be under enormous stress. They need to know that resources exist in our community to assist them so that they may continue to help their loved ones,” said Angel G. Estrada, Chairman of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Union County College in Cranford, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Pre-registration is required due to limited seating. To register, call The Alzheimer’s Association of Greater NJ, (973) 586-4300.

The program will consist of small group sessions and informative speakers, including an elderlaw attorney who will discuss legal and financial considerations in care giving, and a physician who specializes in dementia related disorders. A question and answer session will follow each presentation. Informative literature and exhibits will also be available.

Free adult day care will be provided by the Engel Adult Day Care Center in Cranford, for attendees needing this service. The event also includes a light breakfast and music by a quartet from the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra.

This annual public service is sponsored by the Union County Department of Human Services, Division on Aging, in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater New Jersey.
