RAPE CRISIS CENTER STARTS NEW BLOG FOR VOLUNTEERS

Elizabeth, NJ --- A new blog is on hand to help encourage volunteers to join the Union County Rape Crisis Center. Volunteers at the Rape Crisis Center run a 24-hour hotline, and act as advocates for victims of sexual violence.

“The new blog paints a compelling picture of how our volunteers feel about their experiences helping people get through a crisis,” said Freeholder Chairman Angel G. Estrada. “If you are looking for a way to lend your strength to others in need, please visit the blog and learn how you can help.”

The blog is available at http://unioncountyrapecrisiscenter.blogspot.com. It features personal stories by current volunteers, phone and email contacts for the Rape Crisis Center, and information about upcoming volunteer training sessions.

Prospective volunteers can contact the Rape Crisis Center at 908-233-7273 or rcc@ucnj.org.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, reside in Union County, and have their own means of transportation. The commitment requested is three shifts monthly for one year.

The Rape Crisis Center offers confidential counseling for victims of sexual assault, their families, and loved ones. In addition to acting as victim advocates, volunteers answer a 24-hour hotline. The hotline number is 908-233-7273.

The Rape Crisis Center is part of the Union County Department of Human Services and has been serving Union County residents since 1984. The Center’s primary source of funding is the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Division on Women.
