UNION COUNTY OFFERS TIPS ON BALANCED DIET, BALANCED BUDGET
How to make great meals for a small price

Elizabeth, NJ – One free class can help cut your grocery bills every week from now on.  “How to Enjoy a Balanced Diet on a Balanced Budget” is a two-hour course that covers all the basics of planning, shopping, and cooking to save money and eat healthier, tastier food.

The class is offered by the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Union County with the support
of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.  It is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25
at the County building in Westfield.  There is no fee but pre-registration is required by calling
908-654-9854.

“When you switch to healthier foods, you gain savings, lose weight, and enjoy a wonderful energy boost from better nutrition,” said Dr. Karen Ensle, head of the Union County Extension.

One main reason for high food bills is a reliance on prepared, processed foods.  These same foods are typically high in unhealthy ingredients like sugar, bleached white flour, and fat.

“How to Enjoy a Balanced Diet” includes planning meals around healthy low-cost foods, cutting down on waste in the kitchen, and spotting the best deals in supermarkets.  Dr. Ensle, who is an expert in family health and nutrition, will conduct the class.
