Union County Schools Can Request a Free Tree Union County Celebrates Arbor Day
Elizabeth, NJ -- The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is once again providing free trees for any school in Union County to plant in celebration of Arbor Day.
“These trees really are a gift from the schools to their communities,” said Freeholder Deborah Scanlon. “They add beauty to the property, they make a habitat for birds, and their shade provides relief from the summer heat.”
The trees are given out with a free training session on tree planting and care. They are available as long as supplies last. To request a tree and schedule a training session, contact your school principal or Union County Public Works Secretary Barbara Knapp, 908-789-3653 or email@example.com.
For additional questions about the training program, contact 4-H Agent James Nichnadowicz, chairman of the Shade Tree Advisory Committee, 908-654-9854 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Schools should plan on sending a group of students, with adults, to receive the training and pick up their tree. The sessions will be held at Williams Nursery in Westfield on Monday April 20 and on Wednesday April 22. Only one session needs to be attended.
For schools that cannot send students to attend a training session, arrangements can be made to send an adult.
Arbor Day has been a national observance since 1872, encouraging the public to plant and care for trees. It will be celebrated on Friday, April 24.
