Union County Offers History Grant Workshop, April 29
WESTFIELD, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is sponsoring a free grant-writing workshop for Union County-based non-profit groups including historical societies, historic house museums, libraries and similar organizations seeking funding for a history program or project meriting funding through the 2010 Union County History Grant Program. The grant period runs from September 1, 2009, through August 31, 2010. The workshop will be conducted from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at the Union County Annex, located at 300 North Avenue East in Westfield.
History grant program staff will present an overview of the grant program and a step-by-step approach to preparing the application budget and narrative for a history project or program that teaches and promotes better understanding of and appreciation for Union County and New Jersey history. Participants are encouraged to come prepared to discuss their project or program ideas. Grant applications and guidelines will be available at the workshop.
“Funds from the History Grant Program can support activities including heritage tourism
projects; history exhibits; lectures; conservation and preservation of historical materials;
history publications; consultant fees; and oral history projects,” said Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella.
The maximum request for a General Operating Support (GOS) grant is $7,500 and it is available only to Union County-based history organizations. Other nonprofits may request a Special Project Grant up to $5,000 to expand history programming. The funds are awarded on a competitive basis.
The Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs administers the Union County History Grant Program, which is funded by a grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
