Giddy Up! – Explore Union County’s Watchung Reservation on Horseback, May 31

Giddy-up! Watchung Stable instructor Kristie Larson leads riders towards the woods on a Nature Trail Ride. This spring, rides are scheduled on Sunday, May 31, at 9:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. for families with children, ages nine and older, and for adults ages 18 and older. Participants assemble at Watchung Stable to join a Trailside park naturalist for a ride to learn about the local flora and fauna in the 2,060-acre Watchung Reservation. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. No riding experience is necessary. The fee for this program is $35 per person for Union County residents and $45 per person for out-of-county riders.

MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Trailside Nature & Science Center and Watchung Stable are pleased to offer guided trail rides in the Watchung Reservation on Sunday morning, May 31, at  9:00 a.m. or 10:30 a.m., for participants who are nine years of age and older.
“A guided horseback-riding tour is an ideal way to enjoy the spring in Union County’s largest park and learn about the natural history of the area at the same time,” said Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella.
Rides depart from Watchung Stable promptly at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and last approximately one hour. Two groups will depart each hour; one group for adults, ages 18 and older, and the other group for families with children ages nine and older. No riding experience is necessary. Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the event for a brief orientation.     
Experience the Watchung Reservation in a new and exciting way: on horseback! You’ll meander through woods and fields and visit Lake Surprise on a walking trail ride. A park naturalist from Trailside will interpret sights and sounds of nature and identify interesting trees, plants and wildlife along the way. 
Please wear long pants plus shoes or boots with a heel. Helmets are recommended, but are not provided or required.
