ARCHERS CAN SIGN UP FOR NEW UNION COUNTY RANGE
Work completed on Union County’s first public archery range

 

Elizabeth, NJ – Union County’s new archery range will be open for archers with a Union County Archery ID card starting in July.  The range, which is fully handicapped-accessible, is located in Oak Ridge Park in Clark.  Archery volunteers partnered with Union County personnel to build the range, which includes bow rests, viewing benches, and a picnic area.  An estimated 4,000 archers live in Union County.

Advance sign-up for a Union County Archery ID Card is required for all archers who wish to use the range.  Sign-ups will be held at the archery range in Oak Ridge Park during the week of
June 15 to June 20, weeknights (Monday through Friday) from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm.

All applicants must provide proof that they have passed an archery course offered by any of the following organizations:

National/State 4-H Shooting Sports
National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP)
National Alliance for the Development of Archery (NADA)
National Archery Association (NAA)
National Field Archery Association (NFAA)
Boy Scout/Girl Scout Archery Merit Badge Holder or Instructor
Centershot Ministries
Go Archery
Society for Creative Anachronisms (SCA)
International Bowmen’s Organization (IBO)
National College Athletic Association (NCAA)
USA Archery
NJ Bow Hunters License or All-Around NJ Hunters License
Union County Archery Safety Questionnaire
Lightning Wheels Archery

Applicants age 17 or older will receive an Adult ID Card.  Union County residency is not required.  Applicants age 16 and under will be issued a Youth ID Card.

The fee for one full year of use (July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010) will be $45.00 for adult Union County residents and $20.00 for youths and seniors.  The Union County fee also applies to residents of Edison.  The fee for all other out-of-county residents is $90.00 for adults and $40.00 for youths and seniors.

Directions to the Union County Archery Range: From Garden State Parkway take exit 135, Westfield/Clark.  Take Central Avenue toward Westfield, to Raritan Road. Turn left on Raritan Road (the name changes to Oak Ridge Road after approximately 2 miles).  The park is on the right side of Oak Ridge Road about 1/2 mile past Lake Avenue.
