UNION COUNTY ANNOUNCES “JERSEY FRESH”
FARMERS MARKET SCHEDULE FOR SENIORS

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced today the upcoming schedule for the “Jersey Fresh” farmers market. Union County residents age 60 and older may be eligible for vouchers to purchase locally grown “Jersey Fresh” fruits, vegetables and herbs. To qualify for the $30 vouchers, an individual’s annual income cannot exceed $19,240 (or $20,036 after July 1, 2009) and a married couple’s annual income cannot exceed $25,900 (or $26,955 after July 1, 2009).  Proof of income must be presented in the form of a Medicaid card, SSI card, Food Stamp verification, or annual pension & Social Security statement when applying for “Jersey Fresh” vouchers. Vouchers may be obtained at distribution locations and applications are available at Senior Nutrition sites and Senior Centers throughout the county. County residents may purchase produce at any of the scheduled farmers markets.

“The Jersey Fresh program continues to promote good nutrition for seniors while supporting local farmers,” said Alexander Mirabella, Chairman of the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. “We hope all those who are eligible will take advantage of this opportunity to purchase fresh produce at a reduced cost.”
