Clark, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to invite the public to attend an Open House and Introductory Archery Lesson at the new Union County Archery Range at Oak Ridge Park in Clark, on Monday, July 27 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  The new range, which was built at nominal cost to the county by volunteer archers, is handicapped accessible.

Pre-registration for the event is required, by calling the Union County Department of Parks and Community Renewal at 908-527-4900.

“Archery is a wonderful sport that rewards and satisfies, regardless of your level of expertise,” said Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella.  “The Freeholder Board is thrilled to have this opportunity, for the first time, to offer beginners of all ages a convenient and affordable way to learn the basics skills.”

The archery course will consist of a safety training session followed by hands-on instruction at the range.  The fee is $20 for adults, $10 for youths and seniors.  For a family, the maximum fee is $40.  Archery equipment is available during the lesson.

Persons who complete the introductory lesson are eligible to apply for a Union County Archery ID card, which entitles the bearer to unlimited use of the range for one year, from July 1 2009 to June 30 2010.  Applications and ID cards will be available at the Open House.

The fee for the ID Card is $45 for adult Union County residents and $20.00 for youths and seniors age 55 and up.  The Union County fee also applies to residents of Edison. The fee for all other out-of-county residents is $90 for adults and $40 for youths and seniors.

A variety of bows and targets will be on display at the Open House, and will be demonstrated by local archery expert Mike Tully.

Archery ID applications will also be available at the Archery Range at Oak Ridge Park every Monday evening throughout the summer, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Persons who have previous archery training may apply for an ID card during these hours, or during the Open House.  A letter, certificate, or other proof of previous training is required.
