MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ – The Union County Summer Arts Festival 2009 concert series continues on Wednesday evening, July 29, with music by Jobonanno and The Godsons of Soul. The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, led by Chairman Alexander Mirabella, invites the public to attend this free concert of rocking soul music at Echo Lake Park on the border of Mountainside and Westfield, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Jobonanno and The Godsons of Soul have been electrifying the tri-state area’s rock clubs and concert halls since 1992. Now they’re making their long-anticipated return to Union County for another performance in the Summer Arts Festival concert series.

Freeholder Chairman Mirabella urges you to “bring the entire family for an evening at Echo Lake Park. Pack a picnic basket, bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and enjoy the music of this high-energy Jersey-based band.”

Rock and soul fans from Atlantic City and Asbury Park to Red Bank and the Meadowlands have thrilled to the sound of Jobonanno and The Godsons of Soul. They’ve opened shows for the likes of James Brown, Jerry Lee Lewis, the B-52’s, Mitch Ryder, Joan Jett, Eddie Money, Clarence Clemons, and Gary U.S. Bonds. And in 2003 and 2007 they appeared at Giants Stadium before Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band took the stage. Now it’s time to welcome them back to Union County.

The Union County information van will be at the concert site, along with representatives from the Office of the Union County Clerk, to answer questions and offer information about interesting programs and services that are available to Union County residents.

The Summer Arts Festival concerts are held throughout July and August on Wednesdays beginning at 7:30 p.m. The location of this summer’s concerts will alternate each week between Echo Lake Park in Mountainside and Oak Ridge Park in Clark. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets are encouraged. Refreshments and snacks will be available from vendors.

The other free concerts in the Union County Summer Arts Festival series include:

August 5 – Parrotbeach (Jimmy Buffett tribute); at Oak Ridge Park. Extra feature: 5th Annual “Party in the Park” to benefit Runnells Specialized Hospital (purchase tickets in advance).
August 12 – The Ed Palermo Big Band with Rob Paparozzi (blues & jazz); at Echo Lake Park.
August 19 – The Nerds (Jersey Shore party band); at Oak Ridge Park, sponsored by the Union County Democratic Committee.
