The Nerds Perform in Free Concertat Oak Ridge Park, August 19
CLARK, NJ – The Union County Summer Arts Festival 2009 concert series continues on Wednesday evening, August 19, with music by The Nerds. The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, led by Chairman Alexander Mirabella, invites the public to attend this free concert of rock and rollicking hit songs at Oak Ridge Park in Clark, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Nerds look funny, but they play great. Their endearing brand of rock music and pop covers, injected with snippets of humor, has been a winning formula since the band was formed in 1985.
Freeholder Chairman Mirabella urges you to “bring the entire family for an evening at Oak Ridge Park. Pack a picnic basket, bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and enjoy an evening of energetic songs that will have you dancing in the dark.”
The Nerds have been bouncing along for nearly 25 years on a whirlwind ride that has taken them from the Jersey Shore to the PNC Bank Arts Center and Carnegie Hall. Wherever they play – from Ship Bottom and Point Pleasant to convention halls and casinos – The Nerds combine their enthusiasm for music with their inventive renditions of hit tunes to keep their audiences satisfied. This evening concert with The Nerds is sponsored by the Union County Democratic Committee.
The Union County information van will be at the concert site, along with representatives from the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, to answer questions and offer information about interesting programs and services that are available to Union County residents.
The 2009 Summer Arts Festival weekly concert series will conclude on Wednesday evening, August 26, beginning at 7:30 p.m., when The Sensational Soul Cruisers will perform at Echo Lake Park on the border of Mountainside and Westfield, sponsored by the Union County Education Association. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets are encouraged. Refreshments and snacks will be available from vendors.
In case of rain, concerts will be held at the air-conditioned auditorium at Cranford High School, on West End Place off Springfield Avenue in Cranford at 7:30 p.m. For rain information call the Union County Department of Parks and Community Renewal at (908) 558-4079 or visit the Union County web site: www.ucnj.org/parks/summerarts.html.
